Title:
Student protests at Delhi University
Description
Student protest in Delhi against the shooting of satyagrahis in Goa by the portuguese. In 1955 a satyagraha was launched by the socialist parties in India to free Goa from Portuguese rule. After the transfer of power by the British and French, it was expected that Portugal too would give up its terrotiroes in the Indian subcontinent. However, Portugal refused on account of its long occupation in the region. The initial peaceful efforts by the Indian republic was met with violence and finally in December 1961 Jawaharlal Nehru approved military action.
