Signed portrait of Indira Gandhi
Description
Portrait of Indira Gandhi signed by her and given to Gossi Soto, Mexican journalist and exchange student at Miranda House. Gossi in her brief memoir recalls her meetings with Indira Gandhi: "Somehow Mrs Indira Gandhi knew there was a Mexican girl studying in the University, and sent me a Word asking me if I could teach her Spanish. After Independence of India I was the only Latin-American in the country. I felt privileged and every day after my studies I used to go to the Prime Ministers residence for my daily Spanish class to Señora Gandhi. After we finished she offered me a cup of tea and then I left until the next day. I must say that she ALREADY new some Spanish. After so many lessons she learned splendidly. So when she used to go on holidays with her children she used to write to me in Spanish. Later when I went back to Mexico I published one of the letters in Spanish that she had sent to me in India.".Obey of Gosse's daughter is named Debora Indira after Mgrs. Gandhi.
