Title:
A family posing for a photograph at Loha Pul or the Old Iron Bridge
Description
Popularly known as "Loha Pul"( the Bridge made by Iron), the Old Yamuna Bridge replaced a previous bridge, from Jahangir's time that connected Salimgarhfort and Red fort in 1863. Before the railways, passengers had to ferry across river Yamuna through boats. East India Railway Company built the Iron Bridge at the staggering cost of 16,16,335 ruppes. It passed through the Salimgarh fort, dividing into two parts and also destroyed parts of the red fort wall. The single line bridge was extended and made doubel line in 1913.
